How Riots Happen

Just as I opened the door of my office the other day, I see the back end of a loaded stretcher float on by the doorway. This was a little surprising for several reasons, none of which were good. Stretchers are nothing new to me, I work in , on and around them all day long and could probably load and unload them out of the rig with my eyes closed. So seeing this one wasn't what surprised me, it was what was on it and where it was headed that did.

......"Hey hold up," I call out to the guy pulling the stretcher, hoping to catch him before he gets into some serious trouble.

The young man pulling the stretcher slowed his step as he looked back over his shoulder at me, but he did not stop. He looked crabby, annoyed at me for interrupting his journey.

......"Stop!" I say, this time in a more direct tone that tells him I am not kidding around.
......"Why? I'm just going out to the loading dock," he said finally coming to a halt.
......"You are just a bit off course. Go around that corner and you are gonna have a riot on your hands."
......"Why?" he asked with a surly tone in his voice.
......"Well, that's the waiting room for the Surgery Center."

The reason I had stopped this man was because of the patient he was carrying on his stretcher. The guy was from a mortuary, and the patient he was transporting was actually deceased. A dead body. Had he turned into the surgery lobby where all those patient families were sitting and waiting, well, it would not have been good. Can you imagine? You are sitting, waiting, worried about a loved one being operated on, and some bozo comes traipsing into the lobby toting a dead body behind him. Now what's your first thought going to be? That's how riots happen....
