Simple Valentines

Chris my work partner beat me in to work this morning. I know this because when I came into my office I found a vase with three peach colored roses in it. Also laying on my blotter were three small kiddie valentines and a box of the little candy hearts that have words on them. These offerings were from Chris's kids, each having sent me a cartoon themed valentine so reminiscent of my own childhood. The simple honesty the cards conveyed touched my heart and sparked tears in my eyes at their thoughtfullness. The candy hearts also make me smile and I open the box and dump them across the desktop and start flipping them over, word side up. In years past I have kept a bowl of the little candies on my desk just for the gang around the office so that they could munch on them, or leave silly notes behind such as : Romeo Really Luvs Ya Dork, or whatever other strange word combinations they can concoct. Always great fun.

Tonight I stopped off at the grocery store and was shocked when I came in. This store has a decent sized florist section and today it was jammed full of mostly men buying last minute flowers for their girlfriends and wives. It was so busy in fact that the store had set up two temporary registers on card tables just so that they could get folks thru faster. Each of the registers had 4-5 folks waiting in line to pay for their flowers. It looked like an after-Christmas gift return area it was so busy.
When I got out to the parking lot a lady in the car parked next to mine was unloading her gronceries into the car's trunk. "Did you see that?" she laughed referring to the zoo inside. "Almost all men too. The store will be sold out before long, then what will all those last minute thinkers do?" I giggled too, glad I was not the only one that had been stunned at the sight.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone, and remember: Live, laugh and love more. Life is short!
