Full Moon Mondays

It's been a weird week and one of the busiest ones we have had in a while, started off no doubt by the full moon on Monday. Full Moons and Mondays are never a good thing. This is a glance at what the week entailed hope it makes you laugh too...

A detective from the local PD called and left a voice message on my cell this morning. He asked if I might swing by the stationhouse, said they had something of ours (EMS) that we might want back. This seemed intriguing. What could they possibly have...?

Turned out the cops had nabbed a couple of juvenile delinquents this morning. The kids had swiped a pair of backboards from the ER loading dock and then tried using them as sleds on a hill not too far from here. This made me laugh!

No doubt these kids were the same ones who had swiped a pair of boards last summer and attempted to use them as surfboards out on the lake. After finishing with them, the kids had set the boards adrift on the water and they washed ashore later only to be found by a local homeowner who called us rather startled by this discovery.

I have to give the kids credit for creativity, but if they only knew what really happens sometimes with the backboards we use, they wouldn't touch them again with a ten foot pole.

This isn't funny but it is.

We stopped the other day to top off our tank at the local gas station and while Chris cleaned the windshield and I gassed up, I noticed the car ahead of us filling up as well. A boy of about eight was filling up the tank while his mother sat in the car. How sweet for him to do that for her on this rather cold day!

When we had finished up Chris and I went inside to pay and grab a drink for the road. While we stood at the counter the mother of the little boy came in very out of breath. "How bad is it if my son put diesel in the tank instead of gas?"

To our credit neither of us laughed or said 'oh shit!' until Mom had gone back outside with an attendent in tow.

During a lull over at Station 3 (an EMS/FD station)this week the gang pulled out a 1500 piece puzzle and stretched it out over a side table to work on. Puzzles are pretty popular around here, and this one was an especially nice one they had gotten for Christmas, made up of all sorts of different fire engines and ladder trucks.

I had made a nest on the couch with my paperwork and was not helping but I did see it from where I was. When I heard the sound of someone coughing and choking, along with a general ruckus; I looked up in time to see "Neil" spit something into his hand.

Apparently the gang had been eating chips while they were working on the puzzle, and Neil had not been paying attenion to what he was doing. Rather then popping a chip into his mouth, he had popped in one of the puzzle pieces instead. Neil spit the piece back into his hand and studied it for a moment before declaring it still fit to use, but by then everyone was vacating the table amidst some choice words and remarks about someone's apparent lack of intelligence.

As of today the puzzle is still sitting on the side table, and nobody has touched it since. I just can't understand why...

Old Mike and I while eating lunch in the cafeteria one day:
___"Look at the crop of New Meat coming in..."
___"Mike, you'd better quit referring to the nursing students as New Meat."
___"But that's what they are!"
___"If you don't knock it off..." I say as one of the ER nurses, an Old School nurse, joins us at the table. She hold her tray aloft as she squeezes by on Mike's side.
___"Speaking of New Meat..." Mike says gesturing at her, "This Meats old and grisly!" The nurse does not hesitate, she cuffs Mike 'side the head, right on the ear which had to sting.
___"Behave!" she barks at him as she takes her seat.
___"Did you see that ?!" Mike asks me incredulously.
___"Well I guess what goes around comes around huh, Buzzard Meat?"

Hanging up the phone I walked out of my office and back to where our techs were. With my finger I point at one and motion for him to follow me into one of the momentarily empty exam rooms.

___"I just got off the phone with PACU. Did you bring back one of their beds?
___"Yes, bout an hour ago."
___"Did you clean it before you left it?"
___"Yes Ma'am. Wiped it down, put clean sheets, pillows and a blanket on it. Left it in the store room just like they wanted."
___"Good. Check it before you left it?"
___"Yes Ma'am and I set the brake on it too."
___"Good. Now did you look at it very carefully before you stored it?"
___"No, not really. Why?"
___"Are you aware you left a LOADED BARF BUCKET in the undercarriage?"
